Epameinondas Thomopoulos (Patras 1878 – Athens, January 4, 1976) was a Greek painter who worked between academicism and early Greek impressionism. He studied painting in Italy (Naples, Rome, and Venice) and was the son of Alexis Thomopoulos, president of the municipal council of Patras, from an old local family. His sister, Euterpe, was married to the industrialist Konstantinos Prapopoulos, and his first cousin was the historian Stefanos Thomopoulos. For many years, Epameinondas Thomopoulos served as a professor at the Athens School of Fine Arts and was the school's director in 1948 to 1949. In 1945, he was elected as a member of the Academy of Athens, and in 1962, he served as its president. He received honors such as the Knight of the Italian Crown and the Commander of the Italian Republic. His artistic career spanned over seven decades, with most of his works inspired by Greek nature and rural life. Many of his paintings can be found at the Patras City Hall and the National Gallery of Greece. In 1929, he created 16 oil paintings for the Municipality of Patras, which were placed in the municipal council's chamber and the mayor's office. Thomopoulos had many students who later became well-known artists, such as Apostolos Lefkaditis, Nikos Gaitis, and Giannis Spyropoulos. Additionally, he created frescoes in the Evangelistria church in Patras.
