Epameinondas Thomopoulos (Patras 1878 - Athens, January 4, 1976) was a Greek painter who moved between academicism and early Greek Impressionism. He studied painting in Italy (Naples, Rome, and Venice) and was the son of Alexis Thomopoulos, the president of the municipal council of Patras, and a descendant of an old family in the city. His sister, Euterpe, married the industrialist Konstantinos Prapopoulos, and his first cousin was the historian Stefanos Thomopoulos. He served as a professor for many years at the School of Fine Arts and was the school's director from 1948 to 1949. In 1945, he was elected a member of the Academy of Athens, and in 1962, he became the president of the same institution. Among other honors, he was awarded the Rank of Commander of the Italian Crown and the Rank of Knight of the Italian Republic. His artistic career spanned over seventy years, and most of his works were inspired by Greek nature and rural life. Many of his works are housed in the Patras Town Hall and the National Gallery of Greece. In 1929, he created 16 oil paintings for the Municipality of Patras, which were placed in the council chamber and the mayor's office. Many well-known painters, such as Apostolos Lefkaditis, Nikos Gaitis, Yiannis Spyropoulos, and others, were his students. He also painted frescoes in the Evangelistria church in Patras.
